Getting Started
Tri-Valley Quarter Midget Association (TVQMA) is a non-profit organization that is run and staffed by family volunteers. Kids ages 5 through 15 years old compete for trophies, awards and savings bonds. This organization is proud to offer a family oriented activity that offers the thrill of motor sports competition. “We are the Little League of Nascar and Indy Racing.”
A Quarter Midget race car is a scaled-down version of an actual midget racer, approximately ¼ scale. The cars, rules and safety procedures are designed specifically for kids. There are various types of tracks; dirt, paved and concrete surfaces which are 1/20 mile banked ovals. Safety features include full roll cages, multi-point seat harnesses, full face helmets and other gear. The national organization, Quarter Midgets of America (QMA) is constantly reviewing and evaluating safety rules to ensure that quarter midget racing remains a safe competitive sport.
Quarter midget drivers obtain rewards that will last them a life time. Drivers enhance physical skills while driving such as coordination, timing, and attentiveness. Internal strength is developed through sportsmanship, accomplishment, self-reliance, and recognition. Not only do kids learn valuable skills, but they also make new friends.
Training is designed for children ages 4 ½ to 15 years of age that have an interest in racing quarter midgets. TVQMA supplies trainer cars to those beginning in the sport. The Membership Coordinator can tell you how much the fees will be to get started. Once your driver has demonstrated the ability and desire necessary to drive quarter midgets, you will then need to purchase a car for your driver to participate in any racing event. The training period varies for each child and readiness to race will be determined by the Training Director.
When starting in quarter midget racing, your driver will begin as a novice. Once graduated from the novice classification, the possibilities are endless for your driver and the rest of your family! There are a number of car classifications that you may choose to run and a number of ways to focus your driver’s efforts.
Our club runs a point series for the year in which participants receive awards based on point earned. There are also series races; the 100 Lapper, the Monza, and the Regional Series. This is a national sport and events are held nationwide. National events include the various States races and the Western, Eastern and Dirt Grands. Participation is the best education and the best way to lay out goals for your driver.
TVQMA has a hotline for your use on updated information with relation to races and scheduled events. The hotline number is (925) 461-7722. Call it anytime, day or night, for updates due to weather or changes in schedule. This method serves as our phone tree and no one will be calling you directly.
We conduct general membership meetings the second Wednesday of every month. We meet at Mountain Mikes Pizza, 1472 Vasco Road (PW Shopping Mall) in Livermore. The meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and usually last approximately two hours. Plan on attending as many as you can for the latest happenings with the club and the national membership.
